Actually, it does. I was just trying to figure out how to run the sync script.

Although I get the impression that it synced with the gobbledygook posts in the count. Drat.

<.<

>.>

I have fifty thousand words.

ROFLMAO

That's hilarious omgzz. I have a question though. That ranking system you guys were talking about for the highest word count, um yeah... what does that do? Do you get some special rank or something?

I just reconfigured it to account for forums that we don't count posts on and ran it again. It should have knocked some off of your profiles.

Hmm wait so since my old forum used pphbb it counted my posts from there, too? Weird!

Or is that not what you meant? Cause I don't have any other profiles on FCMidi.

I wonder if signatures are counted in each individual post? Also, Yoshgunn is either bafflingly talkative or something is amiss with his word count.

[Edit] Actually, after giving his RP topic a second glance, I can see how that came about. Hurrah for detailed posts! Keep up the good work or something. ;[

I had the same reaction. It seems abnormally high, then you look at the posts he writes and it suddenly makes sense.

My words per post will probably remain relatively low on the other hand. I don't have much reason to type out essays here since the things that interest me probably won't interest anyone else.

Looks as if myself, Lynk, and Sam all have around the same count, as the people who post the most. And manage to not have very high of one at all. Silly Gobbledygook!

edit: test

edit edit: Yeah it doesn't look like it changes the count if you edit. Not too surprised, just something to note.

Yeah, I noticed that.

But if you think about it it would be difficult to put that in. I mean, it would have to either subtract the previous word count and then count again or somehow calculate the difference in word count without having the previous data to go on. It's possible to retain some information but I'd have to tack on a bit more than just a minor edit.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I reached basically--I'm guessing it calculates the word count every time you post and doesn't track edits. Making it notice edits (which could be additions or removals, adding to the complexity) would be something different entirely. And it would have to store word count information for every post, and it just... yeah. You get the point. In fact, you pretty much already explained it. Ah well! Surely it's not much of a problem, I was only pointing it out.

Yeah. And it's fine to point it out.

The simplest way to do it is to store the word count for every post and then subtract/add the difference. But it'd also have to cover past posts and in the end it's just not worth it when you could just be careful and not edit your posts too often. It's not supposed to be a totally serious statistic.

Yeah. Makes sense. When you get right down to it it could be abused in plenty of ways (creation and deletion of posts for one)... there's just no need, especially in a forum of rather mature members like ours. Try it out on a 10,000 member gaming community and it doesn't turn out so well, you know? Razz

To provide a different answer for a question that was already answered:

No, it doesn't track edits directly... BUT, there is a way to re-sync your own word count so that your edits are counted retroactively, if you're one of the people who care. Wink Just point your browser to:

Arrow http://www.fcmidi.net/forum/resync.php

To quote the mod's author once again, "whenever you run the Resync.php file, it will recount all the posts, even the ones that were edited." However, that wording's a bit misleading, because it only recounts your posts, not all of them.

In any case, there you have it! Mr Green - Bugger Orf

EDIT: For instance, whereas I had 20,980 words before adding this edit, I just ran the file, and now I have 21,007 words. Works like a charm!

11,031 words before making this post.

We freakin NEED an "average words-per-post" counter SOMEWHERE. Because I know I'd pwn most of you in that department. ROFL Lune

I love the word county thing. It helps show who does the biggest posts. Smile

My posts are too small.

Please tell me you were trying to imitate the old Tommy PMs. That sounded like them.
