Your computer can't run an IRC client? That is absolute, complete, utter, miserable fail. Bolded, underlined, italicized. I'd use flashing letters if I could. It is in fact, an epic fail.

Step by step instructions to using IRC with us:

Download mIRC from here (here if that link breaks)
Install it to C:\Program Files\mIRC or wherever you feel like
Run it.
An annoying screen will pop up, whining about how you need to register. Kindly tell it to STAFOOO and move on.
An intimidating screen will appear:
We are going to make this screen our plaything. First, type in a silly name for the Full Name part (usually your alias). Next, type in a fake email. Now the Nickname field contains what you will actually be called on IRC, so use your alias. Fill in an alt nick in case you try to connect and someone is already using Chrzm3. Ignore all the other crap on that screen.
Now click "Servers" under connect.
A new scary screen should appear. Click the fat Add button on the right.
In this, type in Windfyre in the description field, irc.windfyre.net in the IRC Server field, and leave the Ports set to its default, 6667. Don't mess with Group or Password fields. Click Add when you are finished filling it out. A new little folder should appear listing Windfyre, with "Random server" tabbed over a bit beneath it.
Go to the options tab, the next one down from Servers.
Uncheck "Pop up connect dialog on startup" and "Preserve nicknames" check everything else. If you are feeling edgy, skip to the IRC section and go to its options and check the boxes for "Hide ping? pong! event" and "Skip MOTD on connect".
After all that, we are finally ready to IRC!! ...Almost.
This stupid window will pop up. Uncheck "Pop up favorites on connect." Type #FCMIDI in the Enter a Name field. Click the Add button and see that FCMIDI gets put in the list of channels (all spammity spam, by the way). Be sure that "Enable join on connect" is checked. Now just click join. You should now be in #fcmidi, chatting it up with a bunch of idlers! (NOTE: I can't perform this last little bit of steps, so I might be slightly off. In any case, that screen isn't needed. If you connect to windfyre and don't automatically join #fcmidi, just type /join #fcmidi in the little input thing and you'll be there!
ADVANCED STUFF: Register your nick!
1. Change to the nickname you want to register by typing /nick Chzrm3 (or whatever you want)
2. Type /msg nickserv register password email to register it
3. It should say something like "Blah blah blah u r gud"
4. Now it will fuss when you have the nick Chzrm3 (or whatever you picked) and say "HEY THIS IS FOR REGISTERED USERS. IDENTIFY OR DIE." Which just means that someone who registered the nick can have you kicked off so s/he can use it.
5. So, upon connect, type /msg nickserv IDENTIFY password you used to register and you are good to go!
Some basic commands for you:
/me does an action
/msg sends the IRC equivalent of a PM to someone
/quit YOURMESSAGE HERE quits and says "YOURMESSAGEHERE"
/join #channel joins #channel
Ctrl+B bolds (be sure to press again to put ending squiggles around the word you want bolded)
Type the first part of someone's name like, "drp" then hit TAB for mIRC to fill in the rest of that person's nick, in this case "DrPhileasGFraggingtonIV"

If your autojoin crap doesn't work then just hit alt+R and paste this on a blank line. (IF YOU USE MIRC ANYWAY, THIS IS MIRC SCRIPT) Three seconds after you connect to windfyre you'll get autojoined to our channel.

I was never able to make that work from Perform. When I hit "Add" for network, it comes up with a list of a whole one networks and I don't know how to add more to that list. I'm not sure how that works. So I have an on CONNECT script with if statements for all the servers I connect to. It's a little more accessible and editable than perform anyway...less menus.

Also nice, I figured I was the only one who did it with a three-second timer...

Ok, so why can't a join the IRC? It won't let me connect to it. And Mibbit doesn't work because it says I'm banned (I remember I topic related to that). Don't tell me everyone suddenly got TIRED of teh IRC! Crying or Very Sad

I dunno matemate. But I do know that Mibbit has changed its functionality a little bit and Mibbit *may* not be banned anymore. Don't hold me to that, but it's worth a shot.

The server's up and stuff, you should be able to connect.

EDIT: Yeah I was just able to connect with mibbit.

Mibbit still says I'm banned. Trillain won't connect to windfyre. Fragmentor says he can't connect either. There wasn't a server switch or anything that I missed, was there?

I leave for a week and everything falls apart. Bugger. ;[

Yeah. I've even tried using mIRC and it still says I'm banned. ("Closing Link: SB[204.116.99.136] (User has been banned from Windfyre (bot))") Apparently they thought I was a bot of some kind. Sad

We must really truly be IP banned, because Frag said he could get on (maybe you saw him?) when he's connected to his school's Internet.

WHY THE HECK WOULD THE BAN ME?? IM NOT COOL ENOUGH TO BE A BOT!!! ARGH DERN YOU BUSH (I like to blame everything on Bush, and when Obama gets elected, I'll blame everything one him Smile

So I figured out something really intense. If you use ChatZilla, just toolbar bookmark irc://irc.windfyre.net/fcmidi and then you just click on your bookmark and it opens IRC WOOT. To manually add a bookmark you have to press CTRL + SHFT + B, then click on Boomarks Menu or Bookmars Toolbar, depending on where you want it, Right Click, and then Add New Bookmark. Then you don't even have to open ChatZilla to start it up, you just click it and it opens up ChatZilla and brings you right to the FCMIDI chatroom. Woohoo. +1 lazy people
