I have a question for you, Shadow Blade. You see, I don't so much get enjoyment out of video games. With very few exceptions, I enjoy video games because they are a way for me to interact with people whom I would otherwise wouldn't be able to do anything because of lack of common interest. So the more the game emphasizes interaction with other players and less with the game, the more enjoyable for me. This is why I enjoy Wii Sports so much. But all those three games you listed are certainly game-only interaction. Out of curiosity, what is it that you like about it? _________________ Compassion is the radicalism of our time.

Dunno really.
I guess most of it is the rush I get after beating it that's kinda like "well I finally got that out of the way" >_<
Although, with Chrono Trigger, my brothers were almost always watching me play it so it was kind of like we were all playing it in a weird way.
So yeah.
Ninja-edit: Which is one of the reasons why it's too bad there isn't a reliable PSX emulator for the Wii (yes I do most of my emulated gaming on the Wii :] ), otherwise Chrono Cross would probably me a lot more enjoyable. As is, there's that ever-increasing chance of me forgetting about the game altogether and never playing it again like what happened with Final Fantasy VII and me. =P
Oh well. |

I feel I should take a stab at answering this question because all the games I listed on the last page are also game-only interaction, plus I am an enormously insecure person.
There are several reasons I like to play one-player video games. Sometimes it's just as a diversion when I have nothing else to do. But truly great one-player games are great, in my opinion, because they are immersive. In other words, I love games with a story and environment that draws you in and makes you feel like you're actually in the game (in a figurative way). It gives you so much of a greater sense of accomplishment when you complete the game's objectives. This is why games like Wind Waker and Braid are so magical: they have such an immersive atmosphere.
Finally, I like puzzle games like Scribblenauts etc. because they let me exercise my brain and/or, in the case of Scribblenauts, my creativity. You were a big fan of Fantastic Contraption (a one-player game), so you can probably see where I'm coming from in this respect. _________________ BRAND NEW FCMidi Forums! |

On a slightly different topic, I got Mario and Luigi - Bowser's Inside Story on NDS for Christmas. It's really good - it's all I've come to expect from the Mario and Luigi games. Who else has played these games? Opinions? _________________ :3 |

Further to the above, my own single-player game of choice is NetHack. In a lot of modern games, the game "cheats" on your behalf to a greater or lesser degree. This is not necessarily a bad thing, because it makes the game more interesting or it makes you feel more like a badass when the enemies all happen to be standing in a line for your railgun shot or whatever. NetHack plays it completely straight, though, so when I play well I feel the satisfaction of playing better than the game is, in a way.
Then a master lich comes out of nowhere and I'm dead before I've realised what's happening.
I'm sure there are other sorts of game that do this but old games from before graphics became more important than gameplay do it best. _________________ Pretend there's Tubgirl here. |

I liked the first Mario & Luigi.
I tried to play the second one, and I just hurt myself in my confusion. _________________
But you can probably drop me and tell Lester to do my panel instead, since he's already gay and frankly I really don't care about my sexual orientation.
|

The first one was excellent, second one was nice-looking but perhaps a little humourless (with a story as screwed up as can be expected when Nintendo insists upon involving Baby sodding Mario and Baby sodding Luigi). Moderately entertaining, though.
I've just (today) cracked open Mario & Luigi 3 and it seems alright. The dialogue is as fucked up as ever. Also, BOWSER!!!!!111 Et cetera. _________________ ~Lester Square |

I got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Time recently with some of my Christmas money and it's really surprisingly great. My only qualm is that the dungeon design (insofar as there is any "design" to a randomized dungeon) could stand to have a little more variety. The music is excellent and on par with that of the "official" Pokemon games. And the story has some emotional moments, which surprised me. Recommended for anyone who's a fan of roguelike games and/or Pokemon games.
Oh, and I beat Minish Cap. This brings the count of Zelda games I've beaten up to 1. |

Congratulations! Now do another!
In unrelated news, Metroid Prime is good. I can't remember the last time I sat and played a single game for fourteen hours straight. _________________ "" |

I went out and got Bayonetta yesterday so that's my weapon of choice for a while. I got Mirror's Edge too. I really want Dragon Age: Origins, but I'm restraining myself from buying it until I've finished Eternal Sonata. One RPG at a time.
Also I beat Borderlands in 4-player co-op over Christmas, and you should do the same because it is excellent. _________________
Tinytim got it.

Yay =)
OBTW Next time you come home if you bring that disc I'll send you all of my friend credits from MP3, I have most of them.
I've been playing a bunch of Live Arcade titles recently: 'Splosion Man and Castle Crashers being standouts from the lot. Recently reached 100% on Orange Box, and 1 Achievement away from it on Viva Pinata. Spending a lot of time getting pwn'd online in Modern Warfare 2 =X
I'm planning on getting Borderlands eventually, I've heard great reviews, and it's impossible for me to turn down a good RPG/Shooter, especially one as focused on co-op! But it has to wait, I already have too many games that need playing. Of course, the end of '09 was full of great releases, and 2010 is already looking like an all-star year. |

If you can find 3 friends with 20-30 hours to spare and the requisite number of consoles and copies of the game to system link it's definitely worth doing. It's still good in single player, but it's so much better in co-op. _________________
Tinytim got it.

So wait, NSMBWii was good? I was going to get it but I heard that it was insanely easy or something.
Well if you people say it's good then maybe I'll get it. One of my brothers and I have kind of been looking for a good multiplayer/co-op game to play. _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

It's definitely significantly harder than, for example, NSMB for the DS, but not quite as hard as the original.
The perfect difficulty, in other words. |

I've had a play on Mario Bros. Wii (I don't actually own a Wii myself) and found it fairly inoffensive. It didn't manage to hold my interest in the same way that the DS one did, though. Perhaps because the novelty of the DS one was "wow, they've brought back the old Mario formula for the first time in God-knows-how-many years and revitalised it for a new generation!!" wheras for the Wii version the same claim can't really be made.
TOO LONG DIDN'T READ: I'd have liked it far more if the DS version had never existed. _________________ ~Lester Square |

I played the New Super Mario Bros. Played it with two other people, it was pretty cool. I'd rather go for a bike ride or something than play games, but as games go, that one is one of the most fun I've played in a while. Riding Yoshi's was the best. _________________ Compassion is the radicalism of our time.

Ooh, I want to give that one a try. I read about it a while back and it sounds like great fun.
...Speaking of which, sorry for littering your 360's hard drive with demos that I then proceeded to not play.
Re: NSMBW, I've got it but haven't yet booted it up. Partially because I've been saturated with other games, and partially because I'm trying to convince Lucca she ought to play it with me, despite her insistence that she's crap at platformers. _________________ "" |
